President Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, is facing pressure from House Homeland Security Committee Democrats to come before the committee following bribery allegations levied against him.
The Democrats sent a letter, which was shared with the Washington Examiner, to committee chairman Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) on Tuesday, asking him to call Homan in to testify.
Homan is accused of taking $50,000 in cash from undercover FBI agents, posing as business executives, in exchange for government contracts. The Trump administration halted the investigation into Homan.
The Democrats, led by ranking member Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), also accused Homan of continuing to profit from immigration and border security spending through his consulting company.
“Homan has been at the forefront of the Trump administration’s extreme immigration enforcement tactics, positioning him to help former business partners and clients capitalize on the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) border security and immigration enforcement spending,” the letter said.
“In fact, Homan’s consulting firm, Homeland Strategic Consulting LLC, previously advertised its ability to help businesses cash in on government contracts, stating, ‘We have a proven track record of opening doors and bringing successful relationships to our clients, resulting in tens of millions of dollars of federal contracts to private companies,'” the letter continued.
The Democrats want to reveal more of Homan’s client list to ensure the DHS’s “mission is faithfully executed.”
“We have an obligation to take testimony, on the record, regarding the role that Homan has played in the Department’s contracting decisions since entering government in January 2025,” they wrote.
“No one is above the law. The American people deserve to know why President Trump’s so-called Border Czar allegedly used his position and influence to take bribes in his own self-interest. Congress must investigate Tom Homan’s actions and his influence on government spending. We urgently request that you call him to testify before the Committee on this matter without delay,” the members concluded.
Homan has denied the allegations.
“I did nothing criminal. I did nothing illegal. And this is hit piece after hit piece after hit piece. And I’m glad the FBI and DOJ came out and said … that nothing illegal happened.” Homan said. “You’re talking about a guy who spent 34 years enforcing the law.”
The border czar argued that he was not trying to enrich himself by being in government but instead making a sacrifice.
“I left a very successful business that I ran to come back and work for our government again — I’m back on a government paycheck,” he said.
“Not only did I sacrifice, [but] my family sacrifices. I make sacrifices every day, I get more death threats than anybody.… But guess what? My kids don’t. My wife don’t. I haven’t lived with my wife in months, because I don’t want her to be here right now with all the threats,” Homan continued.
House Judiciary ranking member Jamie Raskin (D-MD) sent a letter to the Department of Justice and the FBI on Tuesday asking for evidence in Homan’s case.
