Walz and Frey should say ‘thank you’ for Minnesota ICE operation: Homan

White House border czar Tom Homan says Minnesota leaders, specifically Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, should be thanking the Trump administration for reining in illegal immigrants in the blue state.

“What did the state of Minnesota bring? They’re a sanctuary state. Their county jails weren’t working with us across the state. So you know what? We fixed it,” Homan said on Fox & Friends Weekend. “They ought to be saying ‘thank you.’ The state’s safer because of that, and President Trump gets another win.”

“President Trump gets a win every day,” he added. “Every day he’s winning, and I’m just proud to be a small part of this administration.”

DHS ENTERS SHUTDOWN AFTER CONGRESS SKIPS TOWN WITHOUT DEAL ON ICE

Homan’s remarks came three days after he announced the Department of Homeland Security would soon be ending its immigration enforcement operation in Minnesota. The decision followed public outrage over the deaths of two U.S. citizens, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, in Minneapolis.

President Donald Trump dispatched Homan to Minnesota to speak with Walz and Frey. After discussing the situation with them, Homan believed the best course of action was to pull officers with Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection out of the state.

In making the announcement, the border czar noted Trump agreed with his assessment.

As a result of the Trump administration’s negotiations with state and local authorities, ICE can now work with county jails in Minnesota, where illegal immigrants can be transferred into federal custody. This wasn’t the case before the negotiations.

Homan notably took over the Minnesota ICE operation from Border Patrol official Gregory Bovino, who reported directly to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. She is facing increasing bipartisan pressure from Congress to resign over the backlash caused by the deaths of Good and Pretti at the hands of federal immigration officers.

Speaking on Fox News, Homan touted Trump’s success in securing the southern border and castigated Minnesota Democrats for siding with the Biden administration’s lenient immigration policies.

“Last four years, over 10 million illegal aliens crossed that border. That was broken. Where were they then? Did Gov. Walz speak out against that?” he said. “No, they broke the border. President Trump fixed the border.”
