One person was killed in a shooting involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Biddeford, Maine, a state official said.

“A person was killed. ICE was involved. State Police and the Department of Public Safety are now on scene to gather details and would expect the FBI to investigate as well,” Maine House Speaker Ryan Fecteau, a Democrat, said in a statement posted on Facebook. “These are the details that I have at this time. I will provide further updates, as they are relayed to me.”

The shooting occurred days after an ICE-involved shooting in Houston, sending the agency back into headlines after months of relative quiet.

The man was later identified as a 26-year-old from Colombia.

A video posted on social media showed the aftermath of the Maine shooting, with several officers in green vests attending to the body.

The Washington Examiner contacted the Department of Homeland Security and ICE for comment.

Troy Jackson, who is running for the Democratic Senate nomination after Graham Platner dropped out, said he has been informed of the shooting.

“I’ve been alerted to the fatal ICE shooting in Biddeford this morning. Our team is monitoring this situation very closely and will provided updates as we learn more. My heart is with Biddeford – and with all Mainers,” he said on X.

Nirav Shah, who is also running to replace Platner, sent out a link to a fund that provides assistance to people who have been detained by immigration officials.

“The Maine Solidarity Fund has been providing direct assistance to Maine’s Black and Brown immigrant communities as they face arrest, detention, and deportation from ICE. If you can, please consider giving in support of their work today,” Shah said after the news of the shooting.

An “emergency community rally” was planned shortly after the shooting, and Jackson is expected to be in attendance.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) called for a “full and impartial investigation” into the shooting, adding confirmation that the FBI was investigating.
