Americans are as frustrated with Congress as President Obama, but reject his go-it-alone plan to force his views on the nation through executive actions, according to Rasmussen Reports.
In a new analysis, Rasmussen found little support for Obama’s stated “pen and phone” pathway to getting things done in Washington without input from Congress, especially on gun control and global warming.
“Voters aren’t happy,” said Rasmussen’s Alex Boyer in a video poll release. “Voters are clear: They don’t want the president using executive orders to go around Congress,” she added.
Take gun control. She said that just one-third believe Obama should go it alone.
It’s the same with global warming. “Most voters believe global warming merits urgent attention, but 57 percent still say the government should only do what the president and Congress agree on. Only 33 percent believe Obama should go it alone,” she said.
But it’s worse with immigration. “That’s more support for executive action than the president gets regarding his plan to exempt up to five million illegal immigrants from deportation. Just 26 percent think he should take action alone on immigration, and just as few believe he has the legal authority to grant that amnesty without the approval of Congress,” she said.
