VIDEO: Party leaders, battle lines drawn in Congress

Democrats and Republicans elected their party leaders Thursday and now appear headed toward a collision course over immigration, as Republicans continue to put pressure on President Obama over his impending executive action.

Republicans in the Senate elected Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. to lead the party while Democrats chose Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev. In the House, Speaker of the House John Boehner was elected to lead the Republicans moving forward.

Boehner said Thursday Republicans will continue to fight the president “tooth and nail” over his plans to move forward with executive action to fix the immigration system. Democrats meanwhile have argued that because Congress hasn’t acted, there’s no reason to believe it will moving forward.

In addition to immigration, the now lame-duck Congress is moving forward with votes on the Keystone XL pipeline. Obama has refused to authorize the now politically-charged issue, but may be forced to should Congress pass it in the next week.
