President Trump’s reelection campaign is getting behind the administration’s effort to force a citizenship question on the upcoming 2020 census.
“The American People deserve to know who is in this country and there’s only one way to find out: We need to ask every person ‘ARE YOU AN AMERICAN CITIZEN, YES OR NO?’” the campaign said in a fundraising email sent to supporters.
Trump and his Justice Department are near announcing a move to get the question on the census despite a hurdle put up in a recent Supreme Court decision.
The White House is considering an executive order to put the question on the census over liberal objections.
A new poll shows that the public supports having everyone asked if they are citizens by a 53%-32% margin.
The campaign email linked to a survey asking supporters if they back the president’s plan.
The email read:
It’s totally ridiculous that our Nation’s government cannot ask a basic question of citizenship in our very EXPENSIVE, very important Census.
The American People deserve to know who is in this country and there’s only one way to find out:
We need to ask every person ‘ARE YOU AN AMERICAN CITIZEN, YES OR NO?’
The president wants to know if you’re on his side. All you have to do is answer one simple question:
