Kasich: ‘I’m not going to deport’ illegal immigrants

Ohio Gov. John Kasich told Wisconsinites he would not deport millions of illegal immigrants as president of the United States.

Kasich stated his desire to contravene federal immigration law during a town hall in Waukesha.

“How tough will you be on illegal immigrants in this country?” a man asked.

“Well I mean, I don’t know what you mean by that,” Kasich replied. “Here’s what I, we have 11-and-a-half million here who came in illegally. Do you want to deport ’em? No, I’m not going to deport ’em either.”

The governor explained that if illegal immigrants violated additional laws after entering the country then he would deport them. But other illegal entrants would be free to do as they please so long as they “pay a fine, some back taxes or whatever.” He also said that the United States must build a wall at the southern border.

Kasich was campaigning in Wisconsin after reports he was pulling some of his radio ads in the state.
