Former Mexican president mocks Trump’s ‘stupid,’ ‘completely useless’ border wall

Donald Trump has repeatedly promised voters he would keep unlawful immigrants out of the U.S. as president by building a massive wall along the Southern border and forcing Mexico to pick up the tab. But former Mexican President Felipe Calderon claims not only would his country never pay for such a thing, it would be a “completely useless” mechanism in preventing illegal immigration.

“We are not going to pay any single cent for such a stupid wall,” Calderon told CNBC during a recent interview. “And it’s going to be completely useless.”

“The first loser of such a policy would be the United States,” he added.”If [Trump] pretends that closing the borders to anywhere either for trade [or] for people is going to provide prosperity to the United States, he is completely crazy.”

According to CNBC, the former Mexican president also expressed dismay that voters in “admirable society” like the U.S. would even consider supporting a candidate like Trump for president.

“No offense, no offense to America. Donald Trump is ambitious, but not exactly [a] very well-informed man,” he said, adding, “I don’t want to say ignorant, but he is not very well informed.”

Trump, who’s currently traversing across New Hampshire, where voters will cast their ballots in the first-in-the-nation primary on Tuesday, has recently suggested his controversial wall proposal doubles as a solution to New England’s drug epidemic.

“New Hampshire has a tremendous drug epidemic,” Trump said on Saturday in a video posted to his Facebook page. “I am going to create borders. No drugs are coming in. We’re going to build a wall. You know what I’m talking about. You have confidence in me. Believe me, I will solve the problem.”
