Detour: Nation’s Top 10 Christmas crash ‘hotspots’

A national study of over 200,000 highway accidents during the holidays has revealed that Atlanta’s I-20/I-75/I-85 Downtown Connector is the most dangerous “crash hotspot.”

Go Safe Labs told Secrets that in December of 2016-2018, there were 52 accidents in the interchange involving 165 people.

But its Top 10 list of the worst roads found Texas had three, one each in Houston, Austin, and Dallas.

Go Safe Labs, a nonprofit group that promotes infrastructure issues and public safety, said it hopes travelers will use its new data to avoid accident “holiday hotspots.”

Kevin Pomplun, chairman of Go Safe Labs, said, “We think that with a little more data and analytics about locations you might avoid, it can make all of our holidays even better.”

The group said that accidents spike during the holidays because many drivers are traveling for the first time through areas.
