Speaker of the House John Boehner said Tuesday that when it comes to combating the growing threat from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, the ball is in President Obama‘s court.
“We don’t know what the strategy is,” Boehner said. “Until the president outlines a strategy to deal with this serious threat I don’t know what’s going to be involved.”
A CNN/ORC poll released Monday shows most Americans are concerned about the Islamic State, and the threat the militant group poses to U.S. national security. But Boehner believes the solution will have to extend beyond Iraq and Syria.
“I’ve been calling for a strategy to deal with the growing terrorist threat since January,” he said. “I think we need to be going after the terrorist threat wherever it is, and anyone who thinks this is just an Iraq/Syria issue is not paying much attention.”
President Obama is expected to communicate his plans for combating ISIS to congressional leaders on Tuesday, before addressing the American public Wednesday.
