Journalists Glenn Greenwald and Laura Poitras will return to the U.S. on Friday, the first time they’ve been back since the Edward Snowden revelations.
The Huffington Post reported Thursday that the two are returning to New York City to attend Friday’s Polk Awards ceremony. They are sharing the award with journalists from the Guardian and the Washington Post for their reporting on Snowden’s leaks about National Security Agency surveillance.
Greenwald told the Huffington Post that he’s returning because “certain factions in the U.S. government have deliberately intensified the threatening climate for journalists.”
“It’s just the principle that I shouldn’t allow those tactics to stop me from returning to my own country,” Greenwald told the Huffington Post.
