Two nuclear bombs nearly detonated in North Carolina in 1961, declassified report shows

Nuclear devastation worse than Hiroshima nearly happened in Goldsboro, N.C., in 1961, when an Air Force bomber broke in half, letting two nuclear bombs drop.

Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara said in a newly declassified government report, “By the slightest margin of chance, literally the failure of two wires to cross, a nuclear explosion was averted.”
