Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., appeared on CNN’s “New Day” Monday morning to discuss the upcoming Congressional vote for military authorization for the war against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.
Kaine, who has been pushing Congress to hold a military authorization vote, said Monday the Senate is expected to vote on an authorization Wednesday or Thursday. He sounded confident the vote would pass, as many in Congress have expressed anger toward President Obama for bypassing Congress when airstrikes started this past summer.
The fight over authorization will step into the spot light prior to this week’s vote, however, as Secretary of State John Kerry will testify before a Senate committee Tuesday afternoon. The White House has said it welcomes Congressional debate over the country’s air strikes. However, Republican lawmakers have been quick to point out no formal resolution has been sent to Congress.
