Trump threatens to declassify documents from FBI Russia investigation

President Trump on Thursday teased at the possibility of declassifying documents related to the FBI’s Russia investigation that he said could help officials find “additional corruption” within the investigation.

“The Deep State and the Left, and their vehicle, the Fake News Media, are going Crazy – & they don’t know what to do,” Trump posted to Twitter Thursday morning. “The Economy is booming like never before, Jobs are at Historic Highs, soon TWO Supreme Court Justices & maybe Declassification to find Additional Corruption. Wow!”

Some of Trump’s congressional allies are prepared to request declassification of said documents.

Republican Reps. Matt Gaetz, Fla., Jim Jordan, Ohio, Mark Meadows, N.C., and Lee Zeldin, N.Y., will request in a Thursday afternoon press conference for portions of the documents related to application for the FBI to surveil former Trump campaign aide Carter Page to be declassified.

The request comes after a heavily-redacted version was released in August. The congressman could request for Trump to declassify other documents related to the Russia investigation as well.

Trump’s tweet also lashed out at the “deep state” and “fake news media” following the New York Times’ publication of an anonymous op-ed that was critical of Trump. The author of the piece claimed to be a senior Trump administration official working as part of the “resistance” from within the White House.
