VIDEO: More Russia sanctions could come this week

U.S. and European leaders are preparing for more possible economic sanctions against Russia this week.

President Obama held a video conference call with British, French, German and Italian leaders Monday, as investigations continue into Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, which was shot down over Ukraine nearly two weeks ago.

Deputy National Security Advisor Tony Blinken said the European Union is expected to take “significant additional steps this week” against Russia in the form of economic sanctions. The United States, he says, is also prepared to implement additional measures of its own.

New U.S. trade restrictions would accompany other sanctions put in place earlier this year in response to escalating violence between Russia and Ukraine in the Crimean Peninsula.
