House introduces bill to arm Ukraine

The House Armed Services Committee announced legislation Tuesday evening to provide $1 billion in lethal weapons to Ukraine, ratcheting up the pressure on President Obama to arm the country against Russian aggression.

The bipartisan legislation, introduced by committee Chairman Rep. Mac Thornberry, R-Texas, and top Democrat Rep. Adam Smith of Washington, “calls on the administration to give lethal aid” to help Ukraine fight back against Russia and increase the costs to Russian President Vladimir Putin to get him to back down, Smith said.
