POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — An upstate New York-based utility is exploring the use of drones to help inspect utility structures and find damaged wires and poles.
Central Hudson Gas & Electric says drones could help find downed poles or wires, especially in remote locations.
The company says in a release the drones have the potential to substantially reduce costs and delays.
The utility is using a DJI Phantom 2 drone as part of its initiative, which is in the research-and-development phase.
The company says it plans to invest more in the program.
