Clinton: ‘I don’t know enough about the technology’

Hillary Clinton delivered one of the inadvertent punchlines of the night in the third Democratic presidential debate Saturday night.

Asked about encryption, Clinton admitted, “I don’t know enough about the technology, but law enforcement needs tools.”

The debate opened with Clinton and Bernie Sanders discussing a recent breach of campaign data, which Sanders blamed primarily on a vendor hired by the Democratic National Committee.

Clinton has also been criticized for her use of a private email server kept at her home while she was secretary of state. There have been investigations of how classified information was handled as a result of this unconventional arrangement.

When asked about her email server, Clinton has often expressed ignorance of technology. She once claimed to be unsure if a question about whether she wiped her email server meant she cleaned it with a cloth.
