Several of Meta’s social media platforms went down for multiple hours Tuesday before being restored.
Facebook, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger were inaccessible from around 10 a.m. Eastern time until the early afternoon, according to DownDetector. Meta did not state what caused the outage, although such problems are often caused by software updates or changes to hardware.
“Earlier today, a technical issue caused people to have difficulty accessing some of our services,” Meta spokesman Andy Stone said in a statement. “We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”
