Musk is discussing an end to permanent bans with Twitter’s staff, according to Bloomberg. The reversal of the policy would allow political figures such as Donald Trump and Alex Jones back onto the platform. The discussions are taking place a day after Musk finalized his acquisition of Twitter on Thursday and removed several executives from office, including former CEO Parag Agrawal. Musk will take over as Twitter’s CEO in the short term but may cede the role in the future.

“I will be digging in more today,” Musk said in response to claims from a pro-Trump meme account about being “shadowbanned,” or having a social media account restricted by the platform without notice.

Musk has confirmed that he will reinstate former President Donald Trump back to the platform, calling his ban unethical.

Musk’s finalized acquisition of the company brings months of legal tension to a conclusion as he pays $44 billion to the company to acquire the platform. “The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence,” Musk said in a note to advertisers on Thursday.

Musk claimed that he had acquired the company to “help humanity” and that he did not want the platform to become a “free for all hellscape” with no content moderation and that the platform would maintain the laws of the land while also offering a “welcoming” platform that is customizable.

Musk’s tone in the note contrasts with the one he used in his legal battle with the company. Musk attempted to terminate his agreement to acquire Twitter in July over allegations that the company had lied about its spam bots.

Musk reversed his position in early October when he sent a letter to Twitter agreeing to uphold his initial offer once Twitter’s lawsuit ended and he had the relevant funding from the banks.
