Texas Sen. Ted Cruz fielded an unusual series of questions in New Hampshire about partying on Thursday.
The senator aimed to show off his fun side and said he has “played more than a game or two of beer pong,” but now enjoys going to parks and swimming with his children.
When a questioner asked Cruz which three people — living or dead, but not a politician — that he would invite to a party, the first name Cruz provided was Jesus Christ.
“I mean look, one answer, if you could sit down with anyone, I mean having the opportunity to sit down with Jesus Christ, sitting at a dinner table would be an amazing experience, but let’s set that aside because that’s sort of separate and apart from that kind of question,” Cruz answered. “I will say in my office in the Senate I have three busts. And the three busts that are in that office — I’m going to fail your test of no politicians — are Ronald Reagan, Winston Churchill, and Martin Luther King. And I think that would be a pretty amazing dinner party to sit down with the three of them.”
The Texas senator continued to say that if he were to include someone from popular culture he would add Elvis Presley, who died nearly 40 years ago, and said, “I’d love to sit down with the king.”
Cruz, who ranks first in the Washington Examiner‘s newest GOP presidential power rankings, also talked about the text messages he exchanges with Utah Sen. Mike Lee. Cruz noted one time Lee sent him a message reciting the movie “Braveheart,” so Cruz replied with a line from the film “The Princess Bride.”
In terms of the kind of fun Americans could expect to enjoy with the senator in a future Cruz administration, Cruz noted that he would have a pig roast at the White House in 2017, if elected president.
