South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley said she’d support the eventual Republican nominee, even if it is Donald Trump.
The Marco Rubio supporter often speaks out against the Republican front-runner, and even encouraged South Carolina voters not to vote for him in her state’s primary, which Trump won by a large margin.
“We’ve said that we would support the nominee if they get the nomination,” Haley said while in Greenville, S.C., on Thursday.
But she added that it’s a “big concern” whether or not Trump could do well in a general election. Trump currently leads the Republican field by over 12 points nationally, followed by Ted Cruz and then Rubio. During the GOP debate in Houston Thursday night, Rubio hammered Trump for the holes in his policy plans and ended up frustrating the candidate as he exposed his weaknesses when it comes to policy.
“I believe Rubio can take over Trump,” Haley continued. “I think Rubio has really shown strong passion and fight but not only that, if you look at the crowds that Rubio is getting, it’s young people, it’s old people, it’s all races and all religions,” said Haley.
