Hillary Clinton released a $125 million plan to help bring jobs to low income African-American communities ahead of the South Carolina primary.
While speaking at a town hall in Denmark, S.C., on Friday the candidate introduced the first part of her newly formed “Breaking Every Barrier Agenda,” a plan which will be released in multiple parts over the coming weeks with the goal of empowering the African-American community. The first part of her plan aims to “increase jobs in rural area” and “areas affected by systemic racism.” Clinton claimed that she would pay for the plan by taxing the largest and riskiest financial institutions.
“We need to tear down all the barriers in our way. We need to stand up to indifference to neglect of all the kinds of bigotry that determine too much of what happens in America,” Clinton told voters on Friday.
The former secretary of state echoed her criticism of fellow Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders from last night’s Democratic debate, saying that the Vermont senator is not committed to building on President Obama’s progress.
“This is a big difference,” Clinton said of Sanders and herself. “He has called the president weak, a disappointment, he tried to attract some attention to get someone to run against him for re-election, he does not support the president in the way that I do.”
Black voters are the key for Clinton in the upcoming South Carolina primary.
