Low poll numbers among Republicans don’t seem to have dented Chris Christie’s confidence.
Appearing on SiriusXM host Michael Smerconish’s radio program Thursday, the New Jersey governor crowed that he will not only pull off a victory next spring and win the Republican nomination, but also crush Hillary Clinton in the general election.
“I am going to be the Republican nominee for president of the United States, and then I am going to beat Hillary Clinton like a drum for president of the United States in the fall,” Christie told the radio host.
Christie made the comments after Smerconish suggested that Christie as a candidate would be positioned well for a general election, but not for a GOP primary battle.
According to the latest RealClearPolitics average of national polling, Christie sits in 11th with only 3.3 percent support, putting his spot on the debate stage in deep trouble as former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina has jumped into the top 10 at the moment with 6.3 percent.
Christie’s saving grace, however, could be CNN’s criteria for debate inclusion. The 10 participants for the September 16 debate at the Reagan Library will be determined by polling numbers between July 16-Sept. 10, which will include Fiorina’s minuscule pre-debate polling.
