In the second major federal cybersecurity breach announced in the past month, hackers connected to China may have accessed information on military personnel seeking security clearances, U.S. officials told the Associated Press.
The hackers are believed to have accessed Standard Form 86, which includes personal information such as mental illness, substance abuse and criminal background, AP reported. Those forms also include points of contact. The Office of Personnel Management did not return a call for comment.
Hackers apparently affiliated with China breached OPM and gained access to 4 million federal employees’ personnel records. The December hack was discovered in April and announced in late May.
