An alleged drunk driver crashed into a crowd of spectators Saturday at an Oklahoma State University homecoming parade in Stillwater, Okla., killing four and injuring dozens more.
But for one Michigan newspaper, a “shooter” was to blame for Saturday’s deadly events.
“Shooter kills 4; 30 injured,” read the Traverse City Record-Eagle’s Sunday headline. There was no shooting involved in the weekend’s fatal car crash.

“Witnesses say people flew through the air,” added the report, which of course made no mention of a supposed “shooter.”
The newspaper’s editor eventually caught the mistake and issued a correction Monday.
“Because of a page designer’s error, a misleading headline appeared on page 3A in Sunday’s Record-Eagle accompanying a story about a drunken driver who struck and killed four people at the Oklahoma State University homecoming parade on Saturday,” read the retraction, which was posted under a section titled “Clearing the Record.”
The woman accused of driving under the influence, Adacia Chambers, is being held on four counts of second-degree murder, CNN reported.
Among those killed in the crash was a toddler, a graduate student and a couple “who’d worked at the school for decades,” the report added.
The Traverse City Record-Eagle, which was previously owned by Dow Jones & Company, services most of Northern Michigan, and has a peak weekday circulation of about 20,000, according to the most recent data compiled by the Alliance for Audited Media.
