The daughter of the man who tried to sell Barack Obama’s old Senate seat is madder than a hornet at the just-retired Democratic president.
“Turns out you’re just like all the rest – selfish and spineless,” Amy Blagojevich wrote Obama in a letter, posted on her mother Patti’s Facebook page Thursday and then seemingly pulled down.
Amy’s father Rod Blagojevich is the former governor of Illinois. He is serving a 14-year jail sentence for corruption, including trying to solicit money, possibly in the form of campaign contributions, for the Senate seat Obama left vacant in 2009 when he became president.
Leading up to Obama’s departure from the Oval Office, Blagojevich boosters, including daughters Annie and Amy, wrote to ask for clemency for the former governor.
Though Obama pardoned or commuted the sentences of many hundreds of prisoners in his final days, Rod Blagojevich was not one of them.
Amy Blagojevich did not take it well.
In a follow up letter to her original 3 page plea for clemency, she began,
“Dear Barack Obama,
“If you didn’t notice, I didn’t refer to you as ‘Mr. President’ this time. That’s because you’ve lost my respect.”
She faulted Obama for betraying “the concept of justice, like many other heartless individuals have done before you,” of ignoring “our heartache and our desperation” as well as the “emotional beatings we’ve taken repeatedly over the last eight years.”
Amy wrote to Obama that her father “had faith in you” and continues to have “faith in the system, in justice, in mankind, and in God.”
She, “on the other hand,” not so much.
“I expect people to let me down. I expect the scale of justice to tip in the favor of those who manipulate, lie, and scheme,” she wrote.
And “as for God,” Amy has “no reason to believe He exists,” because she does not believe an “all-powerful, all good, and all knowing God” would have allowed her family to “endure this trauma.”
