Progressives compare Trump to Hitler in ‘Back to the Fuhrer’ ad

The same liberal group behind the infamous “Granny Off a Cliff” ad, which featured a Paul Ryan look-a-like pushing an elderly woman off a cliff, released a new ad Tuesday that blends videos of Donald Trump with footage of Nazi troops.

“We have to ask ourselves: what kind of country do we want to be? One that stands up to hatred and lives up to the principles enshrined in the Constitution and inscribed on the Statue of Liberty or one that rules by fear and subjugation of individuals we deem different,” Erik Altieri, president of the Agenda Project, wrote in a statement.

The provocative, minute-long ad, produced by Altieri’s group, mashes a video of Trump announcing his proposal to bar Muslims from entering the U.S. with black-and-white footage of marching Wehrmacht infantrymen, while music of the Third Reich plays in the background.

“You’re increasingly being compared to Hitler, does that give you any pause at all?” ABC’s George Stephanopoulos asks Trump in a soundbite inserted into the ad.

In his actual interview with Stephanopoulos, which took place in early December, Trump said he wasn’t bothered by critics who compare him to Nazi Leader Adolph Hitler because what he’s doing “is no different than … FDR’s solution for Germans, Italians, [and] Japanese.”

However, the Agenda Project edited Trump’s response so he appeared to suggest his Muslim proposal was no different than Hitler’s plan to exterminate all Jewish people.

“They want democracy, democracy. We can’t have it anymore,” Trump says in another heavily-edited soundbite.

“Don’t let extremists turn the United States in 2016 into 1930s Germany,” states the ad, which was titled “Back to the Fuhrer” in an email sent by the Agenda Project Action Fund.

According to the group, the anti-Trump video is the first in a year-long ad campaign against the “fascist and racist rhetoric” they claim is being used by the Republican Party.

A spokeswoman for Trump’s campaign did not return the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.
