Some high-profile D.C. women broke bread at The Gift of Life Breakfast for a disease that “does not discriminate” — breast cancer.
“In a strange way breast cancer is a unifying disease,” Michelle Fenty, wife of D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty and president of the Advisory Council of the Capital Breast Cancer Center said Wednesday morning. “It affects all women regardless of age, race, national origin, religion and socio-economic status.”
At the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Fenty, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., and Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., all stood for their support in the CBCC, an organization that provides free breast cancer screening in the Washington area.
Jill Biden was expected to speak at the event, but was a no-show because of a “scheduling conflict.”
