The next legal battle over Obamacare is slated for March.
The Supreme Court announced it will hold oral arguments over health insurance subsidies given through the Affordable Care Act on March 4.
The case of King v. Burwell is the only one scheduled for that day — presumably to give the high court a chance to hear more than the usual one hour of arguments. The hearing will determine the fate of tax credits given to lower-income individuals using the federal healthcare.gov website instead of marketplaces operated by the states.
If the Supreme Court decides the federal government is improperly providing the tax credits, an estimated 4.7 million people could be affected.
Critics of the subsidy say the language in the law says people who have received the tax credits can buy insurance only from the state-run exchanges, not the federal ones. Supporters say the plan was meant to provide subsidies to people who bought insurance on both the federal and state exchanges.
