Bush: GOP candidates in the ‘witness protection program’ over Trump

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush bashed the rest of his 2016 Republican presidential candidates Tuesday for their refusal to take on Donald Trump, a job Bush has taken upon himself with less then a month until votes begin rolling in.

When asked by Bloomberg’s Mark Halperin if he would like his brother, former President George W. Bush, to “speak out” against Trump, the 2016 hopeful argued that it’s his job, but also complained that none of the other candidates seem to be interested.

“I think that’s my job. I think that’s my job. You got to take on the bully head on, and that’s what I’m doing,” Bush told Halperin. “Everybody else is in the witness protection program, I’ve noticed.”

“When he says the things he says, and guarantees that a conservative is not going to be elected president, that’s wrong,” Bush continued. “I’ve been a conservative all my adult life, and that’s what I’m fighting for, is to make sure the conservative cause is allowed to actually govern. And when we do, great things will happen for our country.”

Bush made the remark after Halperin pointed to Bush saying the job of taking on Trump is a lonely one, while saying that his brother is popular among many in the Republican base.
