“Saturday Night Live” took aim at Thursday’s GOP debate in its first 2016 episode.
Taran Killam played Sen. Ted Cruz, and mimicked his assertion that Trump represents “New York values.” Killam’s Cruz channeled the popular 1990’s show “Seinfeld.”
“Instead of celebrating Christmas, New Yorkers celebrate a pagan holiday called Festivus,” Killam’s Cruz said.
“Instead of watching American football, they challenge each other to masturbation contests. In New York, people don’t say ‘hi’ to their neighbors, they say, ‘Hello, Newman,'” Killam’s Cruz said.
The Cruz character was then challenged by the fake anchors to further explain his characterization.
“Believe me, if I could say, ‘liberal Jews,’ I would,” Killam’s Cruz replied.
The episode pilloried Donald Trump’s bullying of Jeb Bush. Trump is played by Darrell Hammond, who also played President Bill Clinton in the 1990s.
The Trump character at one point takes a call from what he calls an “expert.”
Hammond’s Trump feigns surprise and says, “What? You’re saying Jeb Bush is a little girl?”
