The Islamic State released another grisly video Wednesday, this time of what the group claims is the beheading of a captured Russian spy.
In a video titled, “You Shall be Disappointed and Humiliated O Russians,” an unidentified man is decapitated by a masked man brandishing a knife.
The video has not yet been confirmed by the Russian government or other governments. If the victim was a Russian agent, it would mark another attempt at escalating tensions between Russia and the Islamic State.
The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the downing of a commercial Russian airliner on Oct. 31, killing 224.
This latest development comes at a time of heightened global tension, largely spurred by the Islamic State, following the Nov. 13 Paris attacks that killed 130. Many in the United States are calling for increased action against the Islamic State beyond the courses of action President Obama has pursued, and the British Parliament is debating contributing to NATO airstrikes in Syria.
