Kerry: ‘Not my job’ to endorse Hillary Clinton

Secretary of State John Kerry on Sunday declined to endorse his predecessor, Hillary Clinton, as she reportedly readies to launch her second campaign for president.

Asked on ABC’s “This Week” to comment on a recent remark by Republican Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who recently said Clinton is the “architect of a failed foreign policy,” Kerry demurred.

“The secretary of state, happily, is able to not be involved in the presidential hurly-burly,” Kerry said. “I’m not going to be involved in it now. It’s important for me to be able to speak to both sides of the aisle and talk about our foreign policy. I’m not going to be involved in partisan politics. So, I’m not going to get involved in it now.”

Kerry did say Clinton did a “terrific” job during her tenure at the State Department, but he would not endorse her as a presidential candidate.

“She will defend, I know, her own record for herself,” he said. “It’s not my job to do it. But I wish her well in this race and I look forward to staying well away from it.”

Clinton is expected to announce her second bid for the White House around noon on Sunday.
