A UH-60 helicopter with 11 military personnel on board crashed at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, Tuesday night.
The personnel on board included four aircrew from a Louisiana Army National Guard unit and seven Marines assigned to Camp LaJeune, North Carolina.
The Louisiana Army National Guard aircrew were participating in a training exercise and was reported missing at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Debris from the aircraft was located by search and rescue team at about 2 a.m. this morning. Search and rescue efforts are underway at the accident site currently.
A second helicopter involved in the training returned safely to base. Both helicopters are assigned to the 1-244th Assault Helicopter Battalion in Hammond, La. The Louisiana aircrews were participating in a routine training mission involving a Camp LeJeune Marine Special Operations Regiment.
Names of the aircrew and Marines on board are being withheld pending next of kin notification. The accident is under investigation.
