Kennedy Center honoring Oprah, Sir Paul

It’s the District’s most exclusive, name-your-first-born-after-whomever-gets-you-tickets to, red carpet event of the year.

Oh, yeah, we’re talking about (drum roll please) the 2010 Kennedy Center Honors, and Dec. 5 it comes to town.

Oprah Winfrey, Paul McCartney, composer Jerry Herman, dancer and director Bill T. Jones and singer Merle Haggard will be recognized and honored for their extraordinary careers in the arts at the Kennedy Center’s 33rd annual gala. And this year, President Obama and the first lady will host the Emmy Award-winning event. According to the Kennedy Center, the five honorees will spend time with the Obamas at the White House before attending the gala. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has plans to host a dinner for the recipients the prior evening.

The two-hour show will be broadcast on CBS on Dec. 28.
