President Obama is preparing to ask Congress for additional funds to fight Ebola.
Bloomberg News reported Saturday that White House and congressional sources say the president could make a request as early as next week.
Obama, who has taken heavy criticism from Republicans for what they say has been a slow response to the spread of the deadly virus, said Saturday that the United States is not experiencing an “outbreak” or “epidemic.”
The president announced this week two major steps to combat Ebola.
Obama signed an executive order Thursday authorizing the use of National Guard forces in West Africa.
On Friday, Obama named longtime Democratic staffer Ron Klain to be his Ebola czar, a move that a Republican congresswoman called “incredibly disappointing.”
Two Americans have contracted Ebola in the United States. Nearly 4,500 have died from the disease in West Africa, according to the CDC.
