Iraqi PM sidelined at G-7

Iraqi Prime Minister Hayder al-Abadi ended up looking like the new kid trying to sit at the cool kids’ lunch table during an awkward moment at the G-7 summit in Krün, Germany on Monday.

President Barack Obama was sitting on a bench, engaged in an animated conversation with IMF chief Christine Lagarde and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, when Abadi sat down next to Obama. Obama seemed oblivious to Abadi’s presence, as did Lagarde and Renzi. The trio stood up and continued their conversation in a huddle, with Abadi odd-man-out.

Abadi, who later met privately with Obama, made a half-hearted attempt to get Obama’s attention before he and his translator gave up and walked away.
