Attkisson: Media doing ‘pretty good job’ covering Clinton

Former CBS News reporter Sharyl Attkisson on Wednesday night praised the media’s coverage of the email scandal that has dogged Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s campaign since March.

“I think we’ve done a pretty good job,” said Attkisson, who became a hero among conservatives for her reporting on controversies in the Obama administration. “It’s a bit of an anomaly. I think the reason the coverage has been so aggressive is because there are Democrats leaking this information. It’s not Republicans going to the New York Times.”

The Times initially broke the news that Clinton was using a non-government email server to conduct official business during her tenure as secretary of state. Subsequent reports have often quoted Democratic operatives and officials who were disturbed by the issue.

“If it was Republicans leaking this information about Clinton, I don’t think the Times would be that interested,” Attkisson said. She said the news then spread throughout the mainstream media because of the Times continues to set the standard for what’s important.

Attkisson was in Washington, D.C., to celebrate the launch of her new investigative TV news program “Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson.”

The show debuts nationally on Sunday on Sinclair Broadcast Group channels. The first edition is set to cover the Syrian refugee crisis and will feature an interview with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Though many of Attkisson’s fans are conservative, she said her program will not have an ideological bent and that it will cover stories that appeal to both conservatives and liberals.
