Baldacci inspired by Lanier

Best-selling political fiction writer David Baldacci joined top business men and women from the District on Monday evening for a private ceremony to honor Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy Lanier. The event was put on by the Washington DC Police Foundation and was held on the rooftop terrace of the Hay-Adams Hotel.

Baldacci is a well-known fan of Chief Lanier’s. “[Lanier] was actually the inspiration for one of the characters in my book True Blue,” he told Yeas and Nays.

The author claims he also draws inspiration from “our natural evolution” as a society. “What would have seemed far-fetched just a few years ago, people believe today,” he says. Which is why he says he believes that, nowadays, it’s nearly impossible to shock people with some of his books’ more imaginative plots. “Anything I write, people say, ‘that could happen.’”

Baldacci’s latest novel “The Sixth Man” is set to be released on Tuesday.
