Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to endorse Ted Cruz

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott will endorse Ted Cruz at a campaign event Wednesday.

“After eight years of relentless attacks on our values from this White House, it’s our duty as Texas conservatives to support a leader we can trust to restore our values and move this country forward,” Abbott said in a video released Wednesday. “That’s why I’m supporting Ted Cruz for president.”

According to CNN, the Texas senator will be joined by Abbott at a 1 p.m. Central time event in Houston.

The endorsement marks the highest-profile endorsement of Cruz from an official in Texas, as only eight colleagues in Congress have backed him. Texas Sen. John Cornyn has declined to endorse any candidate.

The endorsement comes less than a week before Texas voters head to the primary, and a few hours after Cruz’s third place finish in the Nevada caucus.
