Islamic State of Iraq and Syria militants tortured Kurdish children captured earlier this year near the besieged Syrian town of Kobani, a human rights group alleged Tuesday.
Children told Human Rights Watch they were beaten with hose and electric cable while in captivity in the Syrian town of Manbij, according to the Associated Press.
“This evidence of torture and abuse of children by [the Islamic State] underlines why no one should support their criminal enterprise,” said Human Rights Watch’s Fred Abrahams.
The Islamic State abducted more than 150 Kurdish boys from the area in May.
“Since the beginning of the Syrian uprising, children have suffered the horrors of detention and torture, first by the Assad government and now by [Islamic State],” said Abrahams.
The worst treatment was reportedly reserved for the family members of the Kurdish fighters locked in battle with Islamic State forces for control of Kobani.
The Islamic State has besieged the town since September.
