Joe Biden’s son discharged from Navy for cocaine use

Vice President Joe Biden’s son was discharged from the U.S. Navy reserve this year after testing positive for cocaine.

Hunter Biden, who tested positive for cocaine in a drug test in June 2013, was then discharged in February 2014, according to Navy spokesman Cmdr. Ryan Perry. The news was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

“It was the honor of my life to serve in the U.S. Navy, and I deeply regret and am embarrassed that my actions led to my administrative discharge,” Biden, 44, said in a statement provided by his lawyer.

“I respect the Navy’s decision. With the love and support of my family, I’m moving forward.”

Biden was selected for a part-time direct commission in the Navy reserve in 2012 and then assigned to a public affairs unit in Norfolk, Va., in May 2013, according to Perry.

Biden is currently a partner of a Washington, D.C.-based technology firm and counsel to a New York-based law firm.
