A Washington Post politics blogger caught heat on social media Thursday after he described a video of a man being tortured as a scene that fits into “pro-Trump narratives.”

The blogger, Callum Borchers, wrote Thursday that the video “confirmed” the “worldview” of people who “believe discrimination against white people is rampant, that Donald Trump supporters face persecution, that Chicago is a war zone, and the media is dishonest…”
In the video, circulated online Wednesday evening, a young white man is seen verbally and physically accosted by a group of black people who repeatedly say, “fuck Donald Trump” and, “fuck white people.” Local authorities said the victim has a mental disability.
Chicago police have verified the authenticity of the video, which was streamed live on Facebook, and four suspects have been charged in relation to the incident.
Borcher’s post said the video reaffirms the views of President-elect Trump’s supporters who believe that whites face discrimination.
“The worldview of many Trump voters might not be supported by data. But now they can find support in one awful video out of Chicago,” he concluded.
Reaction online was swift to what was seen as Borcher’s excessively political takeaway from a violent incident.
“Please stop trying Journalism. You’re really bad at it,” one person on Twitter said to Borchers.
“‘Narratives’ mean so much to a guy getting stabbed in the head,” said another.
A third said Borchers’ post was “shameful framing.”
Borchers declined a request for comment from the Washington Examiner.
