Nutritionist Heather Bauer, a Potomac native whose newest book “Bread is the Devil” will hit bookshelves Jan. 3, has a handful of creative ways to make holiday partying and dining not quite so dangerous for your waistline. “You must think about your week and your parties,” she suggests, noting that most celebrations are around dinnertime. “You then have two meals a day that you’re still in control of.” She suggests for those meals go light on the carbs, and instead eat proteins, high fiber foods and, of course, vegetables. “The whole notion of going to a party hungry and saving all your calories always backfires,” she adds. Another solid suggestion — wear tighter fitting clothes that don’t allow you to eat and eat and eat. “I also think it really helps women in general, and men too, to wear things a little more fitted,” she tells Yeas & Nays. Finally when it comes to drinks, she suggests ordering cocktails. “Because wine is continually poured,” she explains. Also partygoers should order something they don’t throw back like apple juice. Bauer, herself, usually goes with a vodka soda. “It tastes disgusting,” she admits.
