No more ‘governors suits’ for Jennifer Granholm

She’s admittedly about to be a blond TV host, but former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm envisions herself as casual and cool, focused on honing her questions.

“I am not a bling person, I am not a frilly person, I am not a dress person, I am just very basic, I am about the ideas,” she told Yeas & Nays. “I’m not going be a Fox News anchor, that’s not who I am at all…I do have blond hair, but none of that stuff is me.”

Granholm is the latest liberal talent tapped by Al Gore‘s Current TV cable channel, and will launch her new show “The War Room” on Monday. The show, which is named after James Carville‘s Bill Clinton campaign headquarters, will broadcast from a set that looks just like a war room, the pulse of a political campaign, and will travel around the country to visit other war rooms, included President Obama‘s headquarters, which is first on the list.

“It’s all mocked up to be a campaign office on Main Street,” she said. “And the great thing about the ‘War Room’ is that because it’s set in a campaign office I don’t have to wear my governors suits all the time, that’s very cool.” Might she even get to wear jeans? “Heck yeah, heck yeah,” she replied.

Granholm has loads of respect for other personalities in the business, even though she doesn’t consider herself a journalist because of her defined progressive politics. “Here’s who I love, I love Fareed Zakaria, I love his intelligence and how he approaches issues, I love Rachel Maddow,” she began. “I admire Christiane Amanpour, I really admire her thoughtfulness, I admire the strength and intelligence of Maria Bartiromo — there’s an array of people that I admire.”

But don’t expect a Maddow clone either. “I’m a former governor so it’s a different set of experiences that I bring,” she said.
