McConnell predicts ‘bourbon summit’ will happen with Obama

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., told state party leaders on Saturday that he plans to hold a “bourbon summit” with President Obama, responding to Obama’s post-election pledge to share a drink with the next top leader in the Senate.

McConnell was voted by his GOP conference to serve as the majority leader in the new Congress, which convenes in January.

Republicans won the gavel on Nov. 4, defeating Democrats in eight key races.

McConnell’s Saturday remarks were reported by the Associated Press.

According to the AP, McConnell told the leaders he’d have a tough time picking which bourbon to share with the president, comparing it to selecting which daughter he loves the most. He also questioned whether the summit would merely be a public relations stunt.
