U.S. taking Iranian missile launch to U.N.

The Obama administration on Friday formally condemned Iran’s latest ballistic missile launch and announced that it will take the matter to the United Nations.

“We condemn such threats against another U.N. member state and one of our closest allies,” Samantha Power, U.S. ambassador to the U.N., stated about Tehran’s aggression toward Israel.

Iranian officials have said that Wednesday’s test was aimed at Israel.

The U.N. resolution underpinning Iran’s nuclear deal with the West forbids Tehran from launching nuclear weapon-enabled missiles. It also bars “third-party support” for Iran’s ballistic missile program.

“We will raise these dangerous launches directly at [Security] Council consultations, which we have called for, on Monday,” she stated. “These launches underscore the need to work with partners around the world to slow and degrade Iran’s missile program.”
