Justin Bieber might want to stick with singing.
The teenage pop star, who lost out to Esperanza Spalding at this Sunday’s Grammy Awards for Best New Artist, is profiled extensively in the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone. On Wednesday, the magazine released tidbits of the interview where Bieber is asked about his political leanings. It wasn’t pretty.
The singer, who is Canadian, says he has no ambitions to become an American citizen. “You guys are evil,” he told Rolling Stone’s Vanessa Grigoriadis with a laugh. He also criticized the American health care system. “Canada’s the best country in the world. We go to the doctor and we don’t need to worry about paying him, but here, your whole life, you’re broke because of medical bills,” he said.
At age 16, he said he doesn’t know what political party he would support if he were able to vote. “I’m not sure about the parties,” Bieber told Rolling Stone. “But whatever they have in Korea, that’s bad.”
Grigoriadis also asked him about the tough topic of abortion. “I really don’t believe in abortion,” Bieber said. “It’s like killing a baby?” When Grigoriadis pressed him about abortion in the case of rape, this was his response: “Um. Well, I think that’s really sad, but everything happens for a reason,” Bieber said. “I guess I haven’t been in that position, so I wouldn’t be able to judge that.” Rolling Stone hits newsstands Friday.
