Prince Harry rolled in and out of Washington for a quick visit this week. The Prince of Wales went to no bars and caroused with no ladies, sticking to the British Embassy and the Atlantic Council’s Awards Dinner at the Ritz-Carlton on Monday, where he was honored with a humanitarian award for his work with wounded veterans in Britain.
Second lady Jill Biden was the only local lady lucky enough to get an audience with the royal when she paid a visit to the embassy Monday afternoon.
That didn’t stop throngs of women, young and old, from gathering at the Ritz to try to snap a photo or snag a marriage proposal. Gen. Colin Powell, who introduced Prince Harry during the dinner, remarked wryly, “His presence has altered the normal demographic of the audience. We have a record number of young, single women here.” Powell thanked the prince for helping the average age of Atlantic Council dinner guests drop by 25 years.
Powell praised the prince for choosing military service over a life of leisure and for his charitable work.
Dressed in a black dinner jacket and bow tie, the royal accepted the award with a short, serious speech, showing only a bit of cheek at the “terrifying” prospect of a lowly captain like himself being introduced by the distinguished Powell.
He was seen catching a flight out of Dulles later that evening.
